GEAR LISTS FOR OUR EXCURSIONS

RECOMMENDED PERSONAL GEAR LIST

HERE ARE LISTS OF WHAT WE PROVIDE AND WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING WHEN YOU JOIN US ON AN EXPERIENCE:

 

Whether it’s your first outdoor adventure trip or your 100th, an itemized gear list can be essential in your preparations.  Below, we have compiled a short list of items we feel necessary in making your journey throughout the New Zealand outdoors safe and comfortable.

 

Warmth is the key to enjoying these activities, so please have a close look at the provided information.

WHAT TO BRING:

The key to a great day out is layered clothing that allows you to be active in the outdoors in changeable weather conditions. Remember it is much easier to cool down than it is to warm up so bringing more than you need is better than not having enough gear.

 

Accessories Recommended for all tours:                                          

  • Towel

  • Sun hat                                                

  • Warm hat/Beanie

  • Sunglasses                                          

  • Sunscreen                    

  • Insect Repellant                   

  • Medication               

  • Personal Drink Bottle or Hydration Pack (min. 600mls)

  • Camera and spare batteries

Education Tours NZ required gear:

  • Sleeping Bag – min. 3 Season - Warm to 0 deg- *Can be hired @ $40 week

  • Sleeping Bag liner

  • Sleepwear

  • Flashlight

  • Personal Toiletries          

 

Raft/Kayak Specific Clothing:

  • Shorts/Swims suit/Togs

  • Thermal Underclothing layers for added warmth*

  • Change of Clothes

 

MTB Specific Clothing:

  • Shorts (preferably padded) or riding pants

  • Breathable riding shirt or t-shirt

  • Thermal Underclothing layers*

  • Lightweight rain jacket

  • Gloves (optional)

  • Sports Shoes or Skate Shoes with Smooth or Flat Sole – We are happy to fit personal SPDs and Shoes – please bring Pedals as well as Clips and Shoes. 

  • Change of Clothes

 

Rock Climbing Specific Clothing:

  • Shorts, Thermal Leggings or Athletic Pants allowing Flexibility

  • Close-Fitting T-shirt or Top; Avoid Baggy Apparel as it may get caught in equipment.

  • Thermal Underclothing layers*

  • Sports Shoes or Trainers with good soles

 

Tramping/Hiking Specific Clothing:

The Key to a great day out is Layered Clothing that allows Tramping and Hiking in changeable conditions. Walking clothes should consist of several layers of polypropylene and/or wool (merino is GREAT). Cotton is not recommended as it has terrible insulating qualities. If you are hiking one of our walks, especially those in alpine environments, you need to be aware that temperatures can range from below freezing to very hot. Even in the Summer time temperatures can range from -5 to 35 degrees Celsius.

  • Shorts and Over pants that ideally are waterproof or at least quick drying

  • Thermal Underclothing layers* Leggings and Long Sleeve Layers

  • Thicker Fleece or wool sweater or similar

  • Goretex or Similar Rainproof Jacket

  • Sturdy Hiking or Trekking Boots/Shoes– Worn in and comfortable!

  • Woolen or similar Thick Socks ( multiple pairs)

  • Gloves

  • Ear plugs

  • Blister kit and plasters

  • Very Small Pillow

  • 40-60L Hiking Pack with good harness and waist belt (you will be carrying your own supplies including food and equipment)

 

Snow sports Specific Clothing:

Snow specific clothing can be costly and for the most part can be hired on site. If clients have good quality snow pants and jackets, combined with quality under layers, it is recommended they bring this. The below is an indicative list of equipment to bring;

  • Waterproof Snow Jacket and Pants (available to hire)

  • Thermal Underclothing layers* Leggings and Long Sleeve Layers

  • Waterproof Snow gloves (available to hire)

  • Thicker Fleece

  • Thick thermal socks

  • Snow Goggles (available to hire)

  • Beanie Hat

  • Day Pack

  • Sunscreen

  • Helmet (available to hire)

  • Ski-Snow Board Boots (available to hire) 

 

*Please note that suitable thermal under clothing, should be made of polypropylene, capilene, wool or similar.
